In 1972, Mark Cofman started a business to help individual owners fill their vacant properties with quality tenants. From that modest beginning as a leasing resource, Apartment Exchange has evolved into a full-service management company with a staff of experienced professionals.

As a result of our leasing background, Apartment Exchange is very familiar with the St. Louis rental market. We have developed the marketing and leasing skills necessary to maintain very low vacancy rates, and our sustained success over the past 40 years is the result of our company’s ability to adapt and react to a variety of market conditions. Through referrals and acquisitions, we have expanded significantly. We currently manage over 800 units including several large apartment complexes and scattered sites throughout the Greater St. Louis area.

Running a property management business requires making daily decisions to control cost and maximize revenue. Mark Cofman, owner of Apartment Exchange, has an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and over 40 years of experience in the leasing and management business. Our broker and company president, George Steffen, is a C.P.A. with over 25 years of experience in the real estate field. Their combined expertise and experience is one of the many factors that sets Apartment Exchange apart from our competition.

Our office is staffed seven days a week with dedicated personnel, and we have an after-hours emergency line to ensure 24/7 availability for tenants. Our experienced and committed staff continually strive to provide the best quality of service possible. It is our sincere goal to exceed the expectations of both residents and owners.

Apartment Exchange currently has over 30 full-time employees that specialize in property management, maintenance, construction, renovation, data processing, and accounting. Because we handle a large volume of specialty maintenance services, we have also developed a relationship with a number of sub-contractors who deliver quality services at a reasonable cost. This network of personnel allows us to maintain quality service for tenants while simultaneously maximizing profits for owners.
